Youth Retreat In Duluth 2005

In June 2005, 25 youth from our church had a retreat in Duluth, MN where we stayed for one weekend. We first sighted the famous Aerial lift bridge and we were awed by the size of the gigantic ships that were tethered to the dock. That is one sight we don’t get to see much in the twin cities. After the bridge, our next stop was Canal Park which is right next to the beautiful Lake Superior. We barbequed and quenched the appetite that we had grown on the 2 and ½ hour trip to Duluth. Some then went on to swim in the lake and it didn’t take much persuading for the rest to join them, whether we knew how to swim or not. Most of us didn’t even have bathing suits and yet that didn’t deter us from going into the water with our clothes on. We played volleyball and soccer and took lots of pictures (the pictures tell more about how much fun we had, don’t they?)

Even though the purpose of the retreat was to have fun, the overlying main purpose was to foster good fellowship and love amongst one another and above all, to give glory to God in everything that we did. That was in the back of our minds in everything that we did.

Our last stop for the weekend was Gooseberry Fall which is a great place for hiking and other outdoor activities. We went to see the documentary movie “Mystery of the Nile” at the Duluth Ominmax Theatre and were awe-struck by how much we hadn’t known about the Nile. We left the theatre enlightened yet again about the inherent beauty of Ethiopia. That was the perfect end to our amazing time in Duluth.

Christmas Gift Day

We held a special pre-Christmas event on December 17th which was planned to foster closeness between the youth in our church. We had praise and worship, shared from the word of God, had pizza and we told one another about how we came about to accept Jesus Christ as our Lord and Savior. Included in this program was also a secret Santa activity where we exchanged gifts with people whose names we had drawn from the week before. The gifts were just meant to show our love for one another and also prove how creative we could be (just ask about some of the gifts that were given). We really had a great time.
